Cat and Dog

Here's a picture of my cat. I've owned her for a year now , and would like to share my thoughts.

My cat is the ultimate "logical" creature. She is, for the most part, void of attachment. If she's hungry or wants something, she will whine and beg you, knowing you are compassionate. When she doesn't need anything, she couldn't care less about you, and most often just wants to be left alone. She is highly intelligent, but smart enough to know she doesn't need to learn my stupid pet tricks. She understands she's found a form of "paradise" (unlimited food, free healthcare, free expansive shelter).

My dog is the polar opposite. Even if I treated her like crap (which I don't), she would love and adore me. Even if she's asleep, the moment I approach her she wakes up and greets me. She has dutifully learned every stupid pet trick I've taught her, despite being a little slow.

What is more loveable? What is more pitiful?

  1. Cats are awesome! Until they bring you a giant dead rat as a gift then you're like "WTF MAN?!"

  3. Both are pretty awesome in my view, then again I tend to get along with both. Dogs do have the extra bonus of actually guarding your house. Where as cats... well, they are supposed to catch pests, but mine just lay there.

  4. I love kitties.
    I miss my kitty. :(
I love that cats are so independent unless they need you.
I love that dogs are always happy to greet you.
When you have both, you have the right balance.

  8. Aww nice cat..
Hhmm I don't really know, if they're bit like children for you, there's no need to do divide like that :p

  9. I've had my cat for 3 months, his name is Pippin and he is a Himalayan. I find him to be quite similar to your dog.
He's very affectionate and finds that laying on my keyboard while I'm playing games is the best way to get my attention.

  15. I think both have their own special charm. I have a dog and a cat, which both act similar to how you've described. However, the cat does enjoy attention even when he doesn't want food.

I feel more attached to the dog simply because I've had him for 11 years, compared to the 4 months I've had the cat. But I can see the cat having an equal relationship with me that the dog has over time.

  19. That's why I like cats so much, becuase of their calm personalitites. But I do love dogs too.
I always joke about being a crazy cat lady with 27 cats, having never found a guy who likes me back, and I would sit on my front porch yelling at kids to get off my lawn. So that's also why I would choose cats over dogs. :)

  20. There's something comforting about dogs. Sure they can be super hyper and a hassle sometimes but when they're just chilling with you on the couch, it's like, bliss.
