White Girl Asian Rant
I'm sure many of you have seen or heard about this video. TLDR: White girl rants about Asians after getting annoyed by them in the library.
This is getting HUGE backlash in the Asian community, and a lot of my friends. I hear she's getting death threats and whatnot.
I feel bad for her. We all say things in the heat of the moment, but we live in a society where recorded media can be scrutinized, distorted, and analyzed over and over. She really doesn't come off as someone that is overtly racist, she was just saying some real shit. I find it annoying that we live in a society that's covered in eggshells. I suppose the opposite would be worse though.
I'm gonna say, as some one who used to work in a library for four years at one of the most diverse college campus in the United States, I have seen just about every stereotype on their cellphone at one point or another in the library. She probably just doesn't notice when someone she knows does it. The problem is that its college students, with a cell phone... a terrible idea for any learning situation. That said, people need to get off the phone. I don't care you are, shut up and get off the phone in the library.
ReplyDeleteare you saying that the mocking of another race should be justified off the premise that it makes sense in a certain state of mind/culture?
ReplyDeleteI never heard of it. You should post it, or a link.
ReplyDeleteThere should be a happy medium.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's why you shouldn't let people post videos of you on the internet :D
ReplyDeleteGod, what a b****
ReplyDeleteWow. Well, she is quite cruel with her words but there's no need to threat her with death... I can't say anything more because I'm from so different country which doesn't have many young Asians.
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen it but death threats are over the top. A simple name calling and leave it there would be appropriate :P
ReplyDeleteAlways think twice when you say/write something ^^
ReplyDeleteI think that people are just now starting to adjust to the idea that if you vent your opinions very publicly on a worldwide network, people who take exception to those opinions will make their feelings known. This is something that is new, you aren't warned about it in school... just gotta learn the hard way.
ReplyDeletei agree with you & i disagree with you. she did say some real shit & all.. but she probably should've given it a day to look over before submitting it to Youtube for the world to see. She deserves it because she intentionally put it out there. If she'd waited, redone it maybe with more sense in mind, then Youtubed it, i'd fully agree. just sayin.
ReplyDeleteI dont think that girl is a typical racist. She just picked the wrong words to say. She is probably just a stressed student. People need to calm down.
ReplyDeleteFree speech? Thats crazy! Who would ever allow that?
ReplyDelete........
oh wait....
There's a point in your post, but it's through people like this that people should learn that a youtube video can be forever. One should take a look at their words before publishing them for the world to see. While I agree she doesn't seem too racist as a whole, she did seem ignorant, it especially upset me that she took something as positive as family that stays together, and made it seem like something shameful. The only point she had was that she didn't like seeing old Asians around campus. It's no longer egg shells for me, she's just flat out stupid. Not racist, stupid.
ReplyDeleteI agree we should all try and be nice to each other, but into todays time i think everyone is to concerned about being PC.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the eggshells thing. Political correctness has run amuck every where.
ReplyDeleteoh thats bad
ReplyDeleteYes I feel for her too!
ReplyDeleteyeah i saw the video too! she just wants attention and well, she got it....porbably getting paid by youtube because of adsense now lmao....
ReplyDeleteYeah, she probably could have saved herself a lot of trouble if she had just said 'people' instead of Asians. I saw the video, and the way the word came out of her mouth sounded like she was disgusted by it. And it's true, PC goes a little overboard sometimes, but you do have to be careful. You have to live with what you say.
ReplyDeleteyou could make is smaller but anyway it's true
ReplyDeleteIt is a little rude of those kids. She is not really ranting racially as much as rudeness in the library.
ReplyDeleteI've heard plenty of people talk like this. Some of them actually meant it, some were just frustrated and felt like complaining. Nothing of what she said is exceptional. Death threats are too much.
ReplyDeleteits a fine line we all walk in todays world...
ReplyDeletecant believe this big this thing blew up
ReplyDeleteI can understand why this would get a big backlash in the Asian community.
ReplyDeleteInteresting post, looking forward to your future posts. Will follow :)
i'd hit her, if you know what i mean ;)
ReplyDeleteno seriously ppl shouldn't take everything so serious
She said some stupid shit, but I don't think it should be automatically assumed she's truly racist. However, she should have had the foresight to realize this was a dumb move. I mean, she had the time to think a bit considering she made a damn video and uploaded it. It's not like this was an overheard conversation, she made an effort to put this out there. I agree that the PC shit has to go. It's gotten out of hand.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's why if I realize I may say something stupid, I try and cover up my identity as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteCowardly? Maybe. But I'd rather not be scrutinized like this.
Interesting perspective.

All True.
ReplyDeleteI was more offended for how she said it, even though what she said was abhorrent. Dismissing an entire people and making fun of their cultural beliefs isn't something an adult should do.
ReplyDeleteoh her life will be hell for the next year, I love it! she deserved it
ReplyDeleteIntolerance goes a long way, and that's not good :(
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you.
