Fact or Fiction?

New place is great.
But there is a problem.
Patio is infested with flies. Open the door for 3 seconds, two flies come in.
I must get rid of these flies.
Plan is to put up a huge mosquito net along the outside perimeter of the patio. Then it wouldn't really be "outside", but I can't think of a better solution.

I also heard hanging bags of water deters flies, but I don't belive it. This concept is apparently very hotly debated (was even on Mythbusters where it was said to be false), does anyone have experience trying this?

ANYWAY, if you have any advice on making my porch fly-free, let me know.
Fly stickers won't work, too many. Fly traps won't work, don't want thousands of flies coming and getting trapped ad-nauseum.

  1. The net idea sounds like it would be the most effective, kind of like screening in a porch.

  2. Buy frogs. Patio frogs. Pay them by the fly.

  5. It really depends on the type of flies. The reason the bag (or in my case just a gallon of) water works is because they see their reflection and get scared up. It can't just be around somewhere, it has to actually be within their flying height. During worst case scenarios, like yours, it's worth a shot. I use coke bottles, nice and clear, round, spooks em right off. Worth a shot!

  6. catch and cook the flies, make a fly sandwich

  7. Spiders. Spiders build webs. The webs trap the flies. Problem solved. (Except you'll have spiders.) Shudder.

  8. Dealing with flies is pretty hard unless you can get rid of the thing that is attracting them.

  9. Though citronella/tiki torches work better on skeeters, the smoke from them irritates most flying bugs.

  13. Try thick incense maybe? I've heard the smoke can help clear 'em out, but the source is important.

  14. ewwwwww I'm not all about bugs of any type. I would combine a net with some type of powerful spray or something. Good luck!
